How Do I Handle My Mom’s Addiction?

Question by MissLadyAngel: How do I handle my mom’s addiction?
This may sound strange, but here goes. Ever since the beginning of summer, everyday my mom watches that show all my children. She wakes up and goes online on an all my children message board. Most of the day she is on there up until right before bed. I don’t mind her having a hobby, but I’m having a hard time handling her being on there all the time. My sister is also into the show. They’re into it and it makes me feel left out because it consumes alot of their time. I watch the show just to be a part of it, but I’m not really into it. I talked to my mom about this. I told her I feel like she’s different because her personality has changed. She’s more of a mute now & is involved online. She said she’s still the same and doesn’t believe she’s changed. We don’t have alot of money, so she’s always been more of a homebody, but we used to talk and go out more often. I guess I feel a bit neglected and left out. I don’t want to take away her enjoyment, but how do I deal with it

EVENTUALLY THE STORY LINE WILL CHANGE AND SHE WILL LOOSE INTEREST IN IT. IT ALWAYS HAPPENS. BUT THEN YOU HAVE SOME PRETTY HEAVY SOAP FANS OUT THERE THAT WILL KILL TO NOT MISS A SHOW!

Not yelling. Caps were stuck for a moment.

See, right now I should be watching Days of Our Lives. But, here I sit!

I don’t want to minimize anything someone considers an addiction. Certainly watching soap operas are addictive to many people. Your mom has to see for herself that she is neglecting you and I would suggest you have another talk with her. Tell her about the things you two did together compared to now. If she doesn’t come around, find some decent drug free, crime free friends to hang out with to socialize with. Better yet, read more.
