Had Experience With Rehab Aftercare, Like a Halfway House?

Question by Mardi: Had experience with rehab aftercare, like a halfway house?
My boyfriend of a couple years is currently at Second Nature Wilderness Therapy. He has been there for almost 10 weeks & wont be done until another couple weeks. He got caught stealing and tested positive on drug screen. He also failed out of school during this time & has a problem with lying. The Judge recommended some type of rehab and he voluntarily went. Anyways, I thought this was all about to be over, but he is now being sent to a halfway house (not sure which yet) directly after. I understand the reasoning for it, but Im just upset by it all.
I have been trying to research, but Im finding the same things. does anyone have experience with one or know someone? Any clue what time frame he will be there for? Will we even be able to communicate/visit with me? But more importantly, did it work?
Thanks so much

Not ever being in one myself, i know a LOT of ppl who have went. Stepping Stones is the name of the one I know of, in Portsmouth Ohio i beleive. They got to have what are called furloughs. They got to come home on weekends after being there so long, and they would get day passes sometimes throughout the week to leave, but they had to be back at a certain time. This one you can even have your kids if you wanted, its only for women though. They do group therapy, individual therapy, they have classes you attend there about addictions and so forth. The people I know, no it did not work. Because they CHOSE to get high as son as they got out, so that depends on HIM. If he wants to get high or drunk when he gets out, thats his choice, they cant magically cure an addict. Being an ex-addict myself, or the proper term is “recovering” addict, i never went to a halfway house, I got sent to a place called S.T.A.R. in Southern Ohio, Franklin Furnace Ohio to be exact. It is a military based/community based corrections center, and THAT worked because i refused to go back to the dam place. BUT out of the 21 women i was in there with, ONLY 4..yes FOUR of us stayed clean and got our lives back on track! So wether it works is up to him. Phone calls, now my cousin could call her mom, but her mom had to have like long distance OR a prepaid account with the phone company, because she had to call collect from the payphones at the halfway house. They drug test regularly so i wouldnt advise him to get stoned while hes there. Ussualy it is (court sentenced anyway) 3-6 months, could be up to 9 months though. I do know people who were in there for 6 months, none for 9 but i know they can keep you for 9. My cousin, only 90 days, 3 months. I wish you guys the best tho 🙂
